In 1967 my parents-in-law, Larry & Lila Alkema, opened H&L Manufacturing to produce products for the office furniture industry. Within a short period of time, they had an opportunity to begin building wire harnesses for the automotive industry. Over the years the wire harness portion of the business continued to grow. Due to that growth, the Alkemas added on to the factory as needed. In fact, over the 40 years, factory additions were made at least five times. While continuing to grow the wiring business within the automotive industry, H&L successfully ventured out into other industries…such as military, recreational vehicles, commercial appliance, and back into the office furniture industry. The Alkemas built H&L Manufacturing with the belief that it would be a fruitful business for them if they honored God with it, and worked hard at it.
In 2005, the Alkemas decided that it was time to sell H&L Manufacturing, and so in January 2006, my wife Tanya and I took ownership. We quickly realized that we are truly blessed with the staff we currently have at H&L. They are passionate about the success of the company and have handled the challenges that come along with an ownership change extremely well. We are excited about what lies ahead for H&L. While continuing to supply the industries that H&L always has, we have also ventured into some additional new industries such as medical and commercial lighting.
So now what…
We will continue to work hard at H&L to find new ways to serve our customers. Our mission is “To provide a product and service that goes beyond our customer’s expectation”…and we do not take that lightly. We will do our best to find cost savings and quality improvements for our customers. In addition, we will continue to strengthen our relationships with our suppliers. We realize that developing healthy partnerships with our suppliers is critical in order to fulfill our mission. Another key element to our success is the team of people at H&L. We will continue to do our best to attract and retain highly skilled individuals who also show they are dedicated to the cause of fulfilling our mission and shared values. And most importantly…we will continue to run our business in a way that is pleasing to God.
